The NextGen Bar Exam, debuting in July 2026, aims to modernise attorney licensing by shifting from rote memorisation to practical skills. Incorporating legal writing, negotiation, and client counselling, it shortens testing duration and focuses on real-world legal practice. With over 29 jurisdictions, including Florida and Illinois, adopting it by 2028, this overhaul aligns with the evolving legal landscape. However, California and Nevada have opted out, favouring state-specific alternatives for their bar exams.
