The first student to earn a dual degree

First graduate in Geophysics between the Universities of Pisa and Leoben, thanks to a program initiated by the Department of Earth Sciences

PISA Beatrice Giuliante is the first graduate to receive this double degree in the “International Master of Applied and Exploration Geophysics” (IMAEG), a jointly activated double degree Department of Earth Sciences the University of Pisa and the Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), in Austria.

Beatrice, originally from Roseto degli Abruzzi in the province of Teramo, was discussing a thesis entitled “Modeling and elastic inversion for time-lapse purposes in different reservoir scenarios” and her work was accompanied by a professor Florian Bleibinhaus of the Montanuniversität Leoben, by Prof. Dr Mattia Aleardi the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Pisa and Dr. Enrico Paparozi by ENI. After completing the first year of studies in Pisa, Beatrice acquired 25 CFU in Austria in the third semester, as required by the rules of the double degree, and then carried out the thesis under the correlation of professors from both Unipi and MUL.

The double degree in “International Master in Exploration and Applied Geophysics” is the result of an agreement signed in 2018 between the University of Pisa and the Montanuniversität Leoben and is coordinated in Italy through the Master’s program Exploration and Applied Geophysics supported by the Department of Science of the Earth and by physics department. So far, two Unipi students have completed part of their studies in Austria (the second student is expected to graduate in the next session) and two students from Leoben have completed a semester in Pisa. Beatrice is the first of them to discuss her diploma thesis and will continue her career with a doctorate at the renowned GFZ Potsdam.

Many other students are currently interested in the IMAEG Double Degree and will probably start their studies at the Montanuniversität Leoben in the coming fall semester.
