Squid Game, the groundbreaking survival thriller K-drama that shattered records and topped OTT platform with its debut season, is gearing up for an eagerly awaited return with its upcoming seasons 2 and 3. The series, which captured global attention for its intense storyline and unique concept, has reportedly wrapped filming for both seasons simultaneously, aiming for a sequential release.
According to recent reports from Korean media outlet OSEN on June 14, Squid Game completed filming for seasons 2 and 3. Celebrations ensued as cast and crew gathered in Gapyeong to commemorate the end of an 11-month filming journey that began in July of the previous year and concluded in June 2024.
While initial reports suggested Netflix would release both seasons consecutively, the streaming giant clarified that their focus remains on season 2 alone, without confirming plans for season 3. Nevertheless, insider sources indicate that filming for seasons 2 and 3 proceeded concurrently, akin to shooting a cohesive narrative that will be presented in two distinct parts or seasons.
Season 2 of Squid Game is rumored to consist of 6 episodes, with similar expectations for season 3 spanning 6 to 7 episodes. Drawing comparisons to the successful K-drama ‘The Glory’, insiders hint at a strategy that minimizes the gap between successive seasons, ensuring continuity and sustained viewer engagement. Anticipation mounts as Squid Game season 2 is slated for release in the latter half of 2024, aligning with previous statements from lead actor Lee Jung Jae, who hinted at a premiere date in December 2024.
