Sonali Bendre witnessed a lot of transfers with her father being a central government employee. However, things changed when they landed in Mumbai and Sonali entered the world of showbiz.
From walking the ramp during her college days to featuring in ad campaigns and later making a mark in movies… Sonali has come a long way. As a newcomer, she found mentors in make-up artist Micky Contractor and photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha, guiding her early career.Recalling her first salary, Sonali told mid-day that she was paid Rs 25,000, which took her by surprise. The actress stated, “So,I said, this world exists? And that’s when I told my father, look at my age. I have the time. I have it on my side. I promise you, give me three years. If this doesn’t work out, I will do what you’re saying, but look at the amount of money. If it works out, I can use that for life.”
Sonali Bendre went on to add that her family faced financial difficulties, which made her pursue a career in this profession as a means to support them. She reflected that witnessing her parents’ struggles spurred her decision to take action and commit to this career.
Reflecting on her journey, Sonali had previously told BT, “I came in unprepared, and I have said this earlier too — if I was a producer, I wouldn’t sign me because I had no clue what I was doing. I’m just grateful that I got to learn on the job. In the current times, you wouldn’t be able to do that, as you have to come in prepared. Whatever I am doing today is because of what I have learnt. So, whether my potential was tapped or untapped, what matters is how I have grown. I have always believed that life gives you opportunities and more chances. I hope that I am able to make good on the chances that are given to me.”
