Actor Pankaj Jha, who is receiving much recognition for his role in the web series ‘Panchayat’, recently disclosed why he feels out of place in show business. He also questioned the industry’s failure to see Irrfan Khan‘s potential early on and its years-long delay in recognizing it.
During a conversation with indianexpress.com, Pankaj said he doesn’t want to become like everybody else as he will have to pretend like the others and act in a particular way.Despite all the glamour and glitz associated with the entertainment industry, Pankaj shared that this world is not what it appears to be and that its culture is more akin to a sickness in which a person totally loses himself. He said, “People, working in cinema should be treated like common people. It’s just another job. I don’t understand why they (actors/stars) turn out to become this very complicated people. This is like a disease. I saved myself, I do painting, writing, I don’t depend on movies. I stay away from all that.”
Additionally, Pankaj Jha stated that Irrfan Khan was the sole actor, who deserved all the applause. He also questioned why he had to suffer for so long in the film industry. “I believe actors should refrain themselves from watching films. What happens is they start to mimic it. Today, I feel every actor is mimicking someone. There was only one actor in the industry who was real, that was Irrfan Khan. He has set a benchmark for actors and everybody is trying to reach that benchmark but it is not easy to reach,” he said.
He further added, “We should question the industry why it takes them so much time to recognise true talents like Irrfan Khan.”
Irrfan Khan passed away in 2020. His last film was Angrezi Medium, which was released on March 11, 2020.
