Over 10,000 foreign student acceptance letters have been flagged as potentially fraudulent, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Enhanced checks revealed that 2% of the 500,000 acceptance letters reviewed over the past 10 months were fake, with 1% of applicants having their places cancelled. The IRCC has introduced measures to verify authenticity, aiming to protect both international students and the integrity of Canada’s immigration system. Political leaders are calling for further scrutiny and accountability.
