Italy's PM Meloni clicks selfie with PM Modi at G7 Summit

NEW DELHI: Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni clicked a selfie with PM Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit held in Italy’s Apulia.

Earlier, PM Modi representing India as an outreach nation was received by the Italian PM with a namaste as they both exchanged pleasantries.
PM Modi is on his first official visit to Italy after he took oath for the third time on June 9.He while addressing a session outreach session on Artificial Intelligence during summit called to end the monopoly on technology and said that benefits of technology should reach all sections of society.

“This should not just be our desire, but our responsibility,” he said.
PM further said that for technology to be successful, it has to be underpinned by a human-centric approach. “We must make technology creative, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay the foundation of an inclusive society,’’ said Modi.
He also advocated for the well-being of the Global South and highlighted the importance of Africa in global affairs. He said India has considered it its responsibility to put priorities and concerns of countries of the Global South on the world stage.

Meanwhile, he also underlined India’s resolve to foster close ties with Africa and cited the landmark moment when the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency.
Earlier, in December last year, Meloni and Modi’s selfie went viral after Italian PM shared it with the caption ‘Good friends at COP28’ with #Melodi on X during COP28 summit in Dubai.

Additionally, PM Modi held bilateral talk with French President Macron, British PM Sunak,Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy, Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida and Canadian PM Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
