As per early estimates posted by Sacnilk at 9 PM on Friday, ‘Chandu Champion’ earned merely Rs 3.97 crore. The final figures may increase with night shows, but it remains uncertain if the film will surpass the Rs 5 crore mark.
Currently, ‘Chandu Champion’ is trending below the opening of ‘Munjya’ (Rs 4.21 crore), a film without a star cast.It also falls short of the Janhvi Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi,’ which recorded Rs 6.85 crore on day one, boosted by Rs 99 tickets.
Real ‘Chandu Champion’ gets emotional after watching movie with Kartik Aaryan
‘Chandu Champion’ is likely to be Kartik Aaryan’s lowest opener in years, with his last film below Rs 4 crore being ‘Guest iin London’ in 2017, which earned Rs 2.80 crore. This would mark Kartik’s third consecutive film failing to reach double digits on Day 1, following ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha‘ (Rs 9.25 crore) and ‘Shehzada’ (Rs 6 crore).
The current trending of ‘Chandu Champion’ places it below Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Crakk,’ which earned Rs 4 crore on its first day, aided by discounted rates for Cinema Lovers Day. Similarly, ‘Chandu Champion’ offered tickets at Rs 150 for Friday but still fell short.
With such a low opening, ‘Chandu Champion’ will now heavily depend on audience word of mouth, as critics’ reactions have been mixed to good. The movie also hopes to benefit from the Monday holiday for Bakri Eid.
Released on over 3,000 screens, ‘Chandu Champion,’ produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, marks Kartik Aaryan’s first film of 2024. The actor will return to the big screen with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,’ set to open this Diwali.
